The Q&A Archives: hydrangea trimming

Question: my hydrangea tree needs some shaping. I also don't know if I am suppose to cut off the dead flower in the spring or not. How and when should I trim?

Answer: You can prune off the dead flowers in the winter or in the spring. Hydrangeas produce flowers on new growth so you can prune yours back quite a bit to encourage new flowering stems. Spring is a great time to prune so new growth will develop and new flowers, too. Enjoy!
