I have several older azealea bushes in my flowerbeds that are looking thin and spindley.
I dont want to cut the bush back, is there a way to encourage newer growth at the bottom without cutting it back?

You can try pinching out the growing tips of each stem to force new growth, but the real remedy for legginess in shrubs is to prune them back a bit. This encourages new growth both behind the pruning cut and in front of the cut.
