The Q&A Archives: prunning a weeping cherry

Question: How do you prune a weeping cherry..I bought one at HD and one of the brances is growing straight up and not weeping..should I cut it off?

Answer: The branch growing straight up may begin to turn downward and droop all on its own as it matures so I'd leave it alone for now. If it continues to grow upward with no indication it will join the other weeping branches, go ahead and cut it off in late summer. Enjoy your new tree!
