Answer: You can mix some compost into the soil and then sow grass seeds. They will sprout in 7 to 14 days. You shouldn't feed your new lawn until it has been mowed 3 times. At that time you can use any fertilizer - Scott's Turfbuilder is fine. In a 15 inch by 36 inch area you should be able to hand pull any weeds that appear. As your new lawn grows lush and thick it should crowd out any new weeds.
