We bought 5 acres on the Colorado plains. How do we get rid of the wild yuccas so we can keep the area mowed?

Unfortunately, yucca is very difficult to control; it is very persistent with excellent recuperative qualities due in part to its incredible root system and in part to its somewhat impervious foliage. These same characteristics contribute to its ability to survive in the unique growing conditions found in your area. For these reasons, too, you need to think carefully about how you plan to manage your acreage. You might wish to consult with your county extension (El Paso County Cooperative Extension, 305 S. Union Boulevard in Colorado Springs or give them a call at (719) 636-8920) for help and advice about your various option. Enjoy your new home!
