I have a lot of Bark dust around my flower beds, now I am turning much of the space to a vegetable and Berry garden. Can I use bark dust the same as I have done in the past? Used to keep the soil moist and to limit mud on the boots. |
Bark dust makes a good mulch material, especially for blueberry plants, but you can overdo it because your soil is naturally acidic. So, using it for pathways or near acid loving plants should be fine but I'd keep it out of the veggie garden, just because it can really lower the soil's pH and keep your veggies from growing to their full potential. Or, you can have the soil in your veggie garden tested to see what the pH already is and determine after the test whether or not it is safe to add bark dust. |
