Hey, i got a couple of christmas palm seeds that i want to germinate. I heard that your supposed to peel the seed, but i dont quit understand? Do you peel off the top layer which is like the thin stuff, or do you peel the whole thing including all that thick stringy stuff so that its down to the bare smooth inside seed? Please help me. |
You don't need to do either. You can leave the straw-like husk on and just push each seed into garden soil or potting soil in a sunny spot. With regular watering, they should germinate within 1-3 months. Germination can be hastened by soaking the seeds for 3 days or by scarifying before planting. Scarifying simply means to gently file or nick the husk so water can more easily penetrate and make the seed sprout. |
