| You didn't name the perennials so I'm not quite sure what might have happened to them. Some plants are actually biennials. They flower their second year and set seeds and then they die. Maybe your plants were biennials and not perennials? Winter weather can take a toll on plants, too. Very cold or very wet weather can cause them to die over the winter.
