Can you suggest some colorful flowering plants to use as the border on the lawn that can take the beastly late afternoon sun? No petunias, begonias or geraniums please. |
You might consider dianthus, salvia, celosia, zinnia, or sanvitalia for a low border in hot sun. Although it does not bloom, the silvery leafed dusty miller is colorful in its own way and would also do well. When preparing your planting bed, keep in mind that a soil well supplied with organic matter and a layer of mulch will help the plants withstand heat stress. The plants will also do best with regular watering of approximately an inch a week. |
