| I am looking to cleaning up and turning my front yard plant area into a nice colorful landscape. I live in woodbridge, VA. I am considering the following: zonal geraniums, Anselonia, calibrachoa, Dianthus,chrysanthemums. Are these flowers appropriate for my front yard plant/flower bed the spans on both sides of my front stood and how should they be placed? |
| I like your plant choices! With the exception of dianthus and chrysanthemums, the plants you have chosen are annuals so expect to replace them next spring - or choose something else when you plant next spring. All will grow in full sunshine and you have a variety of upright, compact and bushy growth habits in the plants you've chosen. You might also consider border dahlias which remain 8-12 inches tall and will bloom all summer if your remove the spent blossoms. I think some of the smaller ornamental grasses might add some textural interest to your garden beds. Plant spacing depends upon the mature size of the plants so check the plant tags and add a few inches all around to give each plant adequate space for growth plus some for good air circulation. Most of all, enjoy your new flower beds! |
