| We just planted our yard last year. We used compost on it and tilled it in before planting.After the snow this year our grass has a layer of dead grass on it. What causes this and how do we get our lawn back? We raked up the dead grass & reseeded but it is not growing. I noticed we have crane fly larve is this the problem? Please help me to solve this problem. |
| Snow can kill off the grass so raking it out and reseeding is a good way to help your lawn green up and thicken up. Cranefly larvae can damage lawns but a one year old lawn is a little too new to have extensive cranefly problems. New grass seed will sprout in 7-14 days, depending upon weather and needs to be kept consistently moist until the seeds sprout. It sounds as though you prepared your soil correctly so I'm sure that once the seeds sprout they will be able to root well. After the new grass is up, and after you have mowed it twice, you can apply a fertilizer. This will probably be mid- to late-June which is perfect for your growing region. Feed again in late November to help the roots maintain health over the winter months. Good luck with your lawn! |
