The Q&A Archives: compost or humus

Question: Can't find compost in local stores. Is humus as good to put around plants and then mulch, as compost is?

Answer: Peat is humus, but the term humus is sometimes also used to describe mature compost. Whatever product label it may have, it serves the same purpose so you can use it with confidence as a mulch around your plants. Good luck with your garden!
