when it is a good time to plant corn seeds and should I use a corn stand as i plant seeds |
You can plant your corn now. I'm not sure what you mean about using a corn stand. If you mean you want to support the plants to keep them upright, there are other things you can do. Lodging (or falling over) is a common problem with corn, especially with those that are planted in rows. Why not try planting your corn in blocks rather than in long rows? That way the stalks can help protect one another against strong winds. Another trick the commercial growers employ is to remove the tassles after the silks begin to turn brown to keep the heavy tops from dragging the rest of the stalk over in a wind and rain storm. Make sure the pollen has been released before removing the tassles or you won't have any corn at all! |
