| Our lawn is in an older city neighborhood, the parts of the lawn that have moss and green soil keep losing their grass no matter how often we reseed. The areas get some sun, but more shade from trees (maple/chestnut/poplar). We have limed and fertilized the lawn. Help! Nothing seems to be working. Our front lawn gets full sun and is doing wonderfully. |
| It sounds like the shade is too much for the grass variety you're seeding on the area, and with the competition from trees for nutrients and moisture, the grass doesn't stand a chance. If the soil in that area is compacted or shallow, areate the soil and add rich topsoil and/or compost before reseeding with a shade-tolerant variety of fine fescue. Also consider installing some shade-tolerant perennials to the area for interest - and ease! I hope this helps! |
