Hello will a spliced m/f avocado tree fruit in the Virginia Beach area? My family had a orchard in California and I miss growing them. If the outdoor climate would not be optimum will a large solar green house work? Thanks, Tim

Avocado trees are not frost hardy but if you have a solar greenhouse that remains above freezing in the winter time, you may be able to get your tree to grow and produce avocados. The most often grown avocado tree in California is the Mexican variety known as Haas. The tree can summer outdoors but will need to be protected once your nighttime temperatures reach about 45F. Good luck with your project!
