hi! I started basil, oregano, & parsley in a pot from seeds and then noticed a week or so ago teensy little mites in the soil that are eating the seedlings as fast as they grow. what are they & how do I get rid of them? |
I am not sure what the pests might be. If you just planted seeds in garden soil in pots, you may have imported some pests from your garden. If you planted your herbs in potting soil, then what you may be seeing are fungus gnats. If they fly away when you disturb the plants, they are fungus gnats. These little pests feed and breed in decaying organic matter like moist potting soil, but they don't munch on plants. Try hosing the little mite critters off your plants and off the soil. Or, capture a few and take them to your cooperative extension or well staffed nursery for identification. Good luck with your herbs. |
