You can prune or shear your boxwoods just as they begin to grow this spring. Pruning will remove any leaf miner infested leaves. Leaf miners are difficult to control because they are protected between the upper and lower leaf surfaces so cutting off the infested leaves and raking them out of the garden will control the next generation. Boxwoods can suffer from winter damage or from root rot if the soil remains too wet for extended periods of time. Let's hope that shearing your plants back will remove the dead foliage and your boxwoods will recover later this spring. Feed your plants with a general purpose garden fertilizer such as a 10-10-10. Hope your plants recover soon! |
