| Hi, problems with crookneck squash. Am trying to grow them in a oak whiskey half-barrel. they get plenty of early morning to mid-afternoon sun and adequate watering. they are producing plenty of flowers, but the flowers are only lasting for a few days then they fall off, leaving only stems. the growth of the vines seems slow as well. cukes are growing at a much faster rate next to them. thanks,Lou |
| Squash plants produce separate male and female flowers. If pollen is transferred from the male to the female, a fruit will develop. The male flowers will drop without producing fruit and if a female flower is not adequately pollinated it will begin to develop a fruit but then abort the process. That's why some of the flowers on your plant drop without producing fruits and others will drop immature fruits. As the season progresses your squash vines will develop more and more squashes. In the meantime, continue to give your vegetable plants good care. Enjoy! |
