| Interestingly enough, the plants you mentioned all need to be planted in very early spring because they grow best under cooler temperatures. They will also size up better in relatively rich soil with a steady moisture level (evenly moist but well drained so it is never soggy), and will do best in soil that is a good loam or even slightly sandy. If your soil is heavy you might want to consider using raised beds to which you can add ample organic matter and possibly a bit of sand to lighten the soil. Wait until late summer and replant so they can grow in cooler temperatures, and start them again in early March for an early summer crop. |
