Hello

I have just found one plant dead and some infected, by these little white bugs that seem like little cotton dots on the plants stems. I aplied an insect killer

Sounds like mealy bugs or cottony scale. The insecticide you used probably killed them but they are still attached to the stems. Try prying them off. If they are crumbly, they are dead. If they are still plump and fluid is released, they are still alive. I would dab any live ones with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. That will kill them and in a few days you can brush them off the stems of your plant.
