I have trouble keeping weeds out of my asparagus bed. Can I use Preen or a similar product to control weeds? I have also heard that salt water works. Is that true or is it an "old wives tale."?

The best way to suppress weeds, especially around edible crops, is to lay down a 3-4 inch layer of organic mulch. Not only will the material provide nutrients to the soil, it will help retain moisture as well. I'd steer clear of using chemical herbicides near veggies and fruits, just to be on the safe side.
