| There are tiny mounds which resemble ant hills with holes on top on our loan. We plan on rototilling our lawn and start with seeds. Do we need to do an extra step prior to tilling the lawn? We're afraid there are ants inhabiting in the ground that might prevent seeds from germinating. Thanks for your advise. |
| The little mounds aren't necessarily ant hills, they could be places where earthworms emerge after a soaking rain when the ground is saturated. When things dry out, they go back down into the earth. Go ahead and rototill. Earthworms will move lower into the soil and ants will scatter if they're making homes in your lawn. After tilling spread 4-5 inches of compost or other organic matter over the soil and till it in. This will improve your soil, make it drain faster, and provide nutrients to the roots of your turfgrass. Then level the area and broadcast yoru seeds. Best wishes with your new lawn. |
