The Q&A Archives: clematis

Question: can i keep in pot all summer and bring it indoors for the winter

Answer: You can take the plant indoors but I don't think it will perform well for you unless you can provide supplemental light during the winter months. Instead of taking it indoors you can simply move the container into a cool place that remains above freezing during the winter months and just allow it to rest. A garage or other outbuilding would be ideal. Best wishes with your clematis.
