The Q&A Archives: fertilizer

Question: I have fertilizer for my orchids; 20-14-13...can I use it on other plants besides orchids?

Answer: You can use your orchid fertilizer on other plants. The three numbers indicate the percentage of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. Nitrogen promotes lush, green growth, phosphorous promotes flowering and strengthens stems and potassium encourages root growth and works in conjunction with the other two elements for overall plant health. About the only thing this fertilizer formula won't work well for is carrots where you don't want a lot of green top growth but you do want a healthy root. Best wishes with your garden!
