Do I need to prune my lilac bush?

It is not necessary to prune a lilac bush but all the flowers will be produced on new growth and since pruning encourages lots of new growth, most gardeners prune their lilacs back after the flowers have faded. This way they develop flowers all over the plant and not just on the top (where most growth would normally occur). It's a personal preference....
