The Q&A Archives: Prolonging Lilac Blooms in Water

Question: How can I make my lilac flowers last longer in a vase of water?

Answer: If you pound the bottoms of the stems with a hammer to loosen the tissue, they will take up more water and last longer in a vase. Also, a little bit of sugar in the water will help. Change the water every day to keep it fresh.
