We have very sandy rocky soil. We've spent a lot of time reworking the soil with mulch and compost; however there is a lot of ground to cover. Can you please recommend several perennials that would thrive in this type of environment?

The important thing to remember with sandy soil is that it doesn't retain water or nutrients for any length of time, so you may have to water and fertilize a bit more often. Amending the soil was a good step toward making the bed more hospitable to plants. If you're looking for fast growing perennials that spread, consider Lysimachia, Phlox, Potentilla, Gazania, Jasmine, Blue Star Creeper, Evening Primrose or Penstemon.
