The Q&A Archives: Pulling out a bush

Question: Is it difficult to get the roots out on a fire bush that has been growing for about 5 years?

Answer: There will be some work involved but you should be able to do it. Dig a trench all around the plant between the outermost branches and the trunk and then dig down toward the center. Once you've dug all around, start digging deeper and deeper until you get under the root mass. You should be able to pry it up out of the ground with crow bars or even 2 x 4's for leverage. Good luck with your project!
