Many palms are slow growing and suitable for growing in containers. You might consider Livistonia Chinensis (Chinese Palm), or Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis), which is a dwarf palm. A final suggestion is Phoenix roebelenii (Pygmy Date Palm), which grow 6-8' at maturity. Best wishes with your new palm!
