| plants were planted last fall and did very well. came back again this year and were doing very well. now near the ground in the center of the plant they are dying. the soil in the flower bed is a half and half of mushroom compost and potting soil. we live in alb. nm. thank you |
| Normally chrysanthemums do die out in the center but healthy new growth appears on the outer edges of the clump each spring. What's happening to yours may be normal or it might be root rot. Either way, I would be inclined to dig the mums up and divide them, cutting away the rotting center and replanting the healthy outer growth. Each division will grow into a clump again.
