Dry or granulated fertilizers are the most common types of fertilizer applied to vegetable gardens. A general purpose 10-10-10 is just fine. Side dress your plants (with amounts as suggested on the fertilizer label) and then cover over the bare soil with compost or other organic matter. At the end of the gardening season dig the mulch into the garden soil and add fresh mulch. If you do this on an annual basis you will build good garden loam and your veggies will thrive. Good luck with your garden.
