What type of care does a bougainvillea require for South Louisiana?

Plant it in the sun and avoid the tendency to overwater and overfertilize. Bougainvillea blooms best when it a bit thirsty and hungry! In your South Lousisiana location, it may even be necessary to restrict the root a bit to encourage less growth and more blooming. High annual rainfall and fertile soils make them want to grow vines not blooms.

Bougainvillea can be container grown quite well. Just remember: not too big of a container. They do better when they are a bit rootbound.
