Gardenia flowers start out white and then turn a creamy yellow color as they age. If they turn black, they may be telling you the plant is being overwatered. If the rest of the plant looks healthy, simply cut off the flowers as they fade from white to creamy yellow and before they turn black. The more you prune your gardenia, the more flowering stems it will produce. So, remove the faded flowers and you will get lots more healthy new flowers.
