The Q&A Archives: yellow stripes in lawn

Question: after first fertilizing last year our lawn looked burnt from it. This year we thatched the lawn, improving the green for sure. We fertilized (granule) very mildly using a spreader and still see a few light green paths? It's growing but why do we see discoloring in areas?

Answer: Even though you were careful with your ferilizer spreader, it doesn't sound as though it's doing a very good job. One way to ensure this doesn't happen again is to use half of the fertilizer and apply it in a north/south direction and then apply the second half of the fertilizer in an east/west direction. This way you'll get even coverage and you should not have stripes in your lawn. Best wishes with your turfgrass!
