The Q&A Archives: Fruit trees

Question: Do I need to spray for bugs and when do I fertilize peach and plum trees. Just planted this spring?

Answer: If you only recently planted your trees you won't need to fertilize and sprays are probably not required. Fertilizer will promote new top growth and you really want your tree to spend the summer establishing a healthy root system. For this reason, it's best not to prune or to feed your trees. If you discover insect pests next year, you can treat them as they arrive. Good luck with your trees!
