The Q&A Archives: heather shrub

Question: the heather plant has been flowering since planting in april.. now may 23rd flowers drying out.. should I trim?? I have not given food . just watered via early AM sprinkler system it is at tidal creek edge but never overflows ,,BTAA0041 code Bridgeport CT.

Answer: Your heather will bloom 2-3 times a year if you shear it back when the flowers are spent. Use garden shears or even a hedge trimmer and cut it back below the bottom flower on each stem. Your plant will produce lots of new stems and they will develop flowers in about 8 weeks. Best wishes with your heather!
