There is a very powerful street light directly over our potted plants. Will this light affect the growth of our plants adversely?

The primary effect of the light on your plants will be in affecting day length. Some plants including most fall bloomers get their cue from the shorter days late in the year. A night light can throw them off.

I had a number of plants growing in a similar situation. The only problem was that my Mexican Mint Marigold failed to get the clue in fall and never bloomed!
