Your new plant is a bougainvillea and it is very popular in the Phoenix area where it is a woody perennial but in Flagstaff, it should be considered an annual. It is frost tender and won't survive your winter weather. If you have room you can take it indoors during the winter months and back outdoors in the spring and summer months. In the meantime, enjoy your new plant. Give it all day sunshine and water when the top of the potting soil begins to dry out. It will bloom for about 4 weeks and then the flowers will fall off. But about a month later it will bloom again. Enjoy!
