The Q&A Archives: tulips

Question: I recently planted tulips for the first time. They are now loosing do I close them down for the summer and how do I separate them in the fall.

Answer: Cut the spent flowers and flowering stems down but wait until the leaves ripen and turn brown before removing them from the plant. After that happens you can either leave the bulbs in the ground or you can dig them up and store them over the summer months and replant them in the fall. Best wishes with your tulips!
