I bought a home in end of winter. Since spring i have found the yard looks like it has never been dealt with at all. I have an over growth of weeds. I took them out when i planted but now they are back 10times as much. I already planted there. can i use weed killer or is it to late. (i want to put mulch down but need to deweed first). |
Most weed killers are contact chemicals so anything they touch will be killed. Most won't be safe to use in your newly planted beds. While it may seem like a lot of work, the best approach will be to pull or dig the existing weeds, roots and all and then cover the bare soil with several inches of mulch. There are some pre emergence corn gluten meal products that can stop weed seeds from germinating (Preen is one brand name). You can apply the product after you've pulled the weeds and before you place the mulch around your plants. Between the pre emergent and the mulch, your garden should remain weed free. Best wishes with your garden! |
