'Polish Spirit' flowers will be deep purple-blue with red centers from June - August. It's very hardy and will grow 12-15 feet high. Clematis have tendrils on their slender vines that help them attach themselves to each other and to a support wire or trellis. Grow in well-drained, fertile soil that's slightly alkaline. Keep the roots cool and the top of the plant in the sunshine. You can accomplish this by placing a low-growing annual or perennial at the base of the plant to provide shade. Your clematis will flower on new wood so cut the old woody shoots down to about 3 feet tall in the early spring. You can feed your clematis with an 8-8-8 or similar balanced fertilizer each spring.
