My hydrangea bloomed past 2 yrs.only 2 out of 4 are blooming. What happened? The foliage is big & beautiful. |
Hydrangeas need morning sun but shade from hot afternoon sun in order to bloom well. They bloom on new growth so if your plants are getting morning sun and developing lots of new growth, they should bloom. The only thing that might affect flowering (other than the above) is excessive nitrogen fertilizer. Nitrogen promotes lots of green growth, but sometimes at the expense of flowers. Even if you are careful when fertilizing your hydrangeas, if they are close to a lawn that is regularly fed, they may be taking advantage of the nitrogen in the lawn fertilizer. Sometimes a bloom booster fertilizer will help hydrangeas flower. This type of fertilizer is low in nitrogen but high in phosphorous and potassium. So if you haven't fed your hydrangeas yet this season, you might try a bloom booster. Hope this helps! |
