| Our yard is overrun with allysum. Every year I hand pull it when it gets dry and woody. After a rain it re sprouts and has become a huge nuisance. What can we do to illiminate it totally. |
| There is no easy way to control alyssum because the roots are deep and any root you fail to pull up with simply resprout. However, you can spot treat the plants with glyphosate (Round-up, Kleen-up). First cut the top of the plant off and then carefully spray or paint glyphosate on the freshly cut stem. It should move down through the vascular system and kill the root. Consider each sprouting plant to have its own root system and treat each stem you prune. This way you'll be sure of getting all the roots of each indivdual plant. It will take persistence, but eventually you will win the war. Be careful with glyphosate. It is a contact killer so any overspray or drift can kill your other plants as well. Good luck with your project. |
