I have 2 acres of native type gardens. I also have 3 Corgis. We yearly have to weed wip and hand pull zillions of weeds. We've been hesitant to use herbicides for fear of harming our dogs. What is safe to use/

Herbicides such as glyphosate (Round Up, etc.) degrade in the presence of sunlight and fresh air and they do not translocate in the soil so if you keep your pets out of a treated area for the recommended amount of time (check the product label) they should be safe to use. Because they are contact vegetation killers you'll need to keep them away from the plants you want to keep. Aside from commercial products you might try using vinegar to kill the weeds and/or a corn gluten meal based pre-emergent (such as Weedztop or other brands). The corn gluten will stop weed seeds from germinating but won't kill established weeds. Hope this information helps!
