We have 3 trees, all planted in same type soil, within 20 feet of each other about 2 years ago. 2 are in full leaf and flower, but the center one has no leaves and no flowers. Limbs are flexible and green under bark when lightly scratched. Any ideas as to why it is not growing? When planted it was at least a 2 1/2 caliper tree as were the others. Last year full leaves and flowers, soil is moist.

I don't really know why one of your three chitalpa trees is not thriving. It sounds stressed but other than soils that are too moist, there's no real reason for it to delay leafing out and flowering. I'd give it a little more time. The branches are obvioulsy alive so it appears to be trying to sort out some root stress. I'd just continue giving it good care and hope it leafs out soon. Wish I had more suggestions. Best wishes with your tree.
