On my front yard, i have some areas that i see only roots and the grass does not grow inspite of using weed and feed seeds.A friend advised me to put some top soil all over my lawn to keep it healthy. Plse awaiting for ur advise.

Your friend may be giving you some good advice. If the grass won't grow it might be that the soil beneath the grass is compacted. A core aerator will remove one inch by three inch plugs from the lawn. Leave the plugs on the lawn and they will dissolve in rain or water from the sprinklers. After aerating spread a thin layer of sand or compost over the area and water it in well. The sand or compost plus the soil from the plugs will work their way down into the holes left by the plugs, making more room for root growth. You can then overseed your entire lawn.
