I would replant in a larger pot rather than plant it in the ground. Mint can be terribly invasive and it is almost impossible to get out of a garden once it is planted. Mint likes lots of sunshine and will grow in nearly any soil. Water when the top of the soil gets dry and cut off any stems that develop flowers (the flowers can produce seeds which can start new plants elsewhere in your garden). Best wishes with your new plant!
