The Q&A Archives: caring rose plants

Question: I have rose plants which are scented and before they fully bloom you can see on the petals black marks and they fall apart .Need ur advise how to care and maintain till full bloom.

Answer: Assuming it is getting enough water, then: some roses just naturally do this. It is sometimes called "self cleaning". The Austin rose 'Heritage', for example, always does this in my yard. The flowers last just a few hours after opening and then all the petals fall. Try to find out the name of your rose - and then you can research to see if it is one of the self cleaning types.
