Mature Maple Tree & lrg black ants - Knowledgebase Question

I see large blank ants moving up & down my maple tree. Are they hurting it? If yes, what can I do to rid my tree of them? Regards, Karen

The large black ants may be carpenter ants so further inspection is highly recommended. They can nest in dead wood so you may find colonies beneath the bark, tunnelling through the wood in the trunk or limbs of your tree.
