| I have spots in my yard that have died and are bare and other spots in my yard that are really green. I went out to look at the yellow spots and when I pulled on the dead lawn I noticed the roots were no where to be found what causes this and how can I fix it? |
| What you describe can indicate grub feeding, or simply compacted soils. Try digging up some of the healthy turf to see if you can find grubs in the soil or feeding on the roots. If so, a grub control such as GrubeX is in order. If you find no grubs, your lawn may simply need to be aerated to reduce compaction. A core aerator will remove one inch by three inch plugs from the lawn. Leave the plugs on the lawn and they will dissolve in rain or water from the sprinklers. After aerating spread a thin layer of sand or compost over the area and water it in well. The sand or compost plus the soil from the plugs will work their way down into the holes left by the plugs. You can then overseed your entire lawn. Best wishes with your lawn! |
